Development studio OtherSide Entertainment has confirmed that it is working on a third "System Shock" game. It is not yet clear which consoles the game will debut on but it is possible that it might come out for virtual reality platforms as well.
As reported by IGN, OtherSide Entertainment has been teasing fans of the classic first-person action role-playing game series for some time now about the launch of a third game. But recently, the company officially announced that "System Shock 3" is now in the works.
As part of the development process, the studio also conducted a public survey asking gamers which consoles they would like to see the upcoming game on. Of course, some of the options included the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Interestingly, though, one of the options in the questionnaire mentioned virtual reality support for the game. This, however, is not a clear indication that the game will come out for VR headsets, such as Sony's PlayStation VR. But, it would be interesting to take on "System Shock 3" through a fully immersive virtual reality environment.
Currently, details about "System Shock 3" are a bit scarce. But, according to Time, some of the original developers who worked on the game will be returning for "System Shock 3." This includes Paul Neurath, the founder of the series' creator Looking Glass Studios, lead concept artist Robb Waters and senior artist Nate Wells.
In addition, as a treat for fans of the series, voice actress Terri Brosius will be reprising her role in the third game as SHODAN, the evil artificially intelligent program and main villain from the first two "System Shock" games. Gamers can already get a glimpse of what the character will look and sound like in the upcoming game through OtherSide Entertainment's teaser website for "System Shock 3."
The studio, however, has not yet announced when the third game in the series will be released. For now, it's a bit hard to speculate since the company hasn't even revealed the development progress of the game or a projected timeline for its launch.
But, given the fact that it had just recently conducted a survey for the game's platforms, it seems "System Shock 3" is still in its early development stages. This means it might take a while before a final version of the game is unveiled to the public.
