An 'Animorphs' reboot may be in the works under Universal Pictures. It will be based on the best-selling book series of the 1990's and is set to rival Sony Pictures' 'Goosebumps' adaptation to debut on October this year.
According to Screen Rant, the popular book series by author K. A. Applegate may make it to the big-screen after all with talks of Universal Pictures trying to acquire the rights to create the feature film. It was reported that head of Universal Maradith Frenkel is spearheading the project together with the newly formed Silvertongue Films production group. Silvertongue Films was specifically created to adapt Scholastic Publishing's books into cinematic releases.
It was reported by Nerdist that Silvertongue is helmed by longtime Scholastic TV shows head Deborah Forte. The award-winning producer is best-known for her work in several children's television series including 'The Magic School Bus', 'Goosebumps', 'The Baby-Sitters Club', and 'The Golden Compass'. She is also currently attached to produce the upcoming films 'Clifford the Big Red Dog', 'The 39 Clues' and 'Mortal Engines'.
In another article by Comic Book Resources, it was reported that Universal Pictures is moving ahead with 'Animorphs' and is currently looking for screen writers specifically specializing in the science-fiction genre. The series it will be based from follows a group of humans endowed with the ability to transform into any animal that they touch in hopes of protecting humanity from an impending alien invasion. The upcoming film is said to rival that of 'Goosebumps' scheduled to be released on October 2015.
'Animorphs' is a planned upcoming science-fiction action film based on the popular book series of the same name. The 54 books in total were published between 1996 and 2001 and were adapted into a Nickelodeon television series in 1998. There were five main human protagonists namely, Jake, Rachel, Tobias, Cassie and Marco - and one alien called Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill.
