While promoting his recent film, The Martian, Ridley Scott revealed details on the upcoming Blade Runner 2. Scott admitted that Denis Villeneuve was not the first choice to helm the film and addressed the issue on Harrison Ford's Rick Deckard's identity.
Scott worked on a sequel to Blade Runner for years and as he revealed with Den of Geek, he shared that his first choice to direct the film rejected his offer. "I asked somebody before, who I though would be right - I would rather not say who it is. He just said 'I'm not going to do that, I'm never going to follow through on that"', Scott revealed. But he also further added that he believes that the film is in good hands with Villeneuve set to helm the film.
Furthermore, as reported by /Film, Scott also recently disclosed that Ryan Gosling will be playing the central character in the film and added that the issue on Rick Deckard's identity will be addressed. When asked about whether or not Deckard is a replicant, Scott gave an indicative answer. "Of course he's a bloody Replicant! He's going to have to admit it... I'm not going to tell you [how the question of replicant expiration is addressed]. You'll have to see the story. It'll all make sense", Scott said.
The official title for the film has not been unveiled yet, but according to a report by Independent, rumors are rampant that the film could be entitled Blade Runner: Android's Dream or simply Android's Dream after two web domains were recently registered by the company used by Warner Bros. The web domains registered are bladerunnerandroidsdreammovie.com and androidsdreammovie.com.
Blade Runner 2 is the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi thriller by Ridley Scott, and will pick up several decades after the events of the first film. It is set to be directed by Villeneuve and screenplay by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. No release date has been officially sealed for the film as of yet but more details are expected to be revealed when production takes more progress.
