According to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), a Virgin Australia flight on Monday night had to turn back when a disruptive passenger caused chaos by running through the cabin naked and assaulting a flight attendant.
An individual was observed sprinting down the aisle of the aircraft, seemingly attempting to access either the cockpit or front door, before being subdued by Virgin passengers on Tuesday evening.
According to USA Today, VA696 departed Perth as planned and was approximately an hour into the flight to Melbourne when an incident took place.
This prompted the pilots to turn the aircraft around and head back to Perth, as reported by FlightAware.
A passenger expressed a sense of unease as the man hurriedly moved about the plane, Daily Mail reported.
According to a witness who spoke to Melbourne radio station 3AW, a male passenger caused a disturbance by running up and down the aisle and banging on the cockpit door.
Two individuals were restrained and handcuffed by air marshals until the flight landed. The flight from Perth to Melbourne experienced a delay of 90 minutes before finally departing at 7.20pm, local time.
After arriving back in Perth, some passengers decided to board a second flight to Melbourne after a six-hour wait, while others preferred to wait until the following morning.
A spokesperson said that the individual was arrested by officers for reportedly engaging in disruptive behavior on the aircraft, which included running naked and causing a crew member to fall.
