On Thursday, June 20, VCPost reported that the Biden administration is banning the sales of Kaspersky software in the US due to its alleged Russian Ties. While the company has already defended its link to Russia, the administration believes its deep access to computer systems will leave government structures vulnerable.
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo emphasized that Russia has the capability and intent to use companies like Kaspersky to gather and weaponize Americans' personal information.

According to Reuters. the Kremlin has responded to Biden's decision with an accusation that it's aimed to suppress foreign competition in favor of American products.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described Kaspersky as a "very competitive" company in international markets and claimed Washington's ban was a "favorite technique of unfair competition from the United States."
In addition to the Russian government's response, Kaspersky itself has announced its intention to explore legal options to continue its operations in the US. The company argues that the decision was not based on a thorough evaluation of the integrity of its products and services.
The company reaffirmed that it is privately managed, has no ties to the Russian government, and that its activities do not threaten US national security.
