An 83-year-old Colorado man was found guilty in the brutal killings of his wife and disabled daughter in Arapahoe County last year.

Colorado Man Convicted of Murdering His Wife, Daughter After Losing His Job

According to the District Attorney's Office for Arapahoe County, the tragic incident unfolded on March 25, 2023, when Reginald Maclaren called Englewood Police and said his family members had been murdered.

Responding officers discovered the dismembered bodies of Maclaren's wife and daughter in separate trash bins within their home.

They also found an ax and a hand saw. During questioning, Maclaren admitted guilt and told police officers that he carried out the gruesome murders after losing his job.

He said he was facing financial difficulties and did not want to be homeless. Maclaren noted that he bought the saw and trash cans about a week before the murders.

The DA said that Reginald Maclaren hit his wife and daughter multiple times with the ax and chopped off their bodies with a saw before placing them in trash containers. Maclaren was reportedly convicted of false reporting, first-degree murder, and two counts of tampering with a deceased body.

A first-degree murder conviction under Colorado law carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole. Maclaren's sentencing is scheduled for July 10.
