Apple's highly anticipated AI features or 'Apple Intelligence,' will not debut alongside the upcoming iPhone and iPad software overhauls, as originally planned, as reported by Yahoo Finance.

Instead, these new AI capabilities will be rolled out in updates coming by October, several weeks after the initial releases of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 scheduled for September. This delay allows Apple additional time to address stability concerns and refine the features.

However, Apple is set to make Apple Intelligence available to software developers this week through the iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas, an unusual move for the tech giant, which typically releases previews of follow-up updates closer to the launch of the new software.

This early testing phase is crucial for ironing out issues and ensuring a smooth consumer release of Apple's new AI technology.

Why Apple Intelligence Has Been Delayed

The company's decision to stagger the rollout of Apple Intelligence comes after concerns about the stability of the new features. While some features will be available, others like advanced on-device data usage for Siri, will be missing from the initial release.

For now, Apple plans to complete the full rollout of Apple Intelligence over multiple updates to iOS 18 throughout late 2024 and early 2025. The technology will also be extended to Mac computers running on Apple's in-house chips with the release of macOS Sequoia and will eventually be available on the Vision Pro.

This strategic timing was employed in hopes to boost sales of the iPhone 16 line by offering software features that complement the hardware upgrades, such as a new camera control button and a faster chip.

VCPost shared that the AI suite includes major improvements available to iPhone 16 devices and beyond, like prioritization of notifications, web page and voice note summaries, improved writing tools, and a revamped Siri with integration of OpenAI's ChatGPT.
