A decentralized social networking site, called Blueksy, saw a sharp rise in users in Brazil after the countrywide ban of Elon Musk's X platform.

According to CNBC, the platform, initially created as a project backed by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, recorded two million new users within just one week. The sudden and high volume of new users is showing performance glitches on the site.

Paul Frazee, developer with Bluesky, told CNBC that there are possibilities of outrage due to unexpected traffic.

X Ban in Brazil

The rise in users follows a ruling by a Brazilian Supreme Court Justice, Alexandre de Moraes, to have X suspended throughout the country last Friday. VCPost reported that the ban is due to X refusing to comply with Brazilian courts regarding orders on content moderation and the appointment of a legal representative in the country.

The bench of the Supreme Court upheld the order on Monday and also ordered fines for all users and traders who attempt to access X via VPN or any other way

Bluesky's Rise to Popularity.

Bluesky's popularity has quickly skyrocketed in Brazil, with the app becoming the top free download on the country's iOS App Store, per Fortune. Meta's Threads, another X alternative, followed closely behind.

Both platforms have been vying for market share in the wake of controversies surrounding Elon Musk's management of X, which has led some advertisers and users to seek alternatives.

Despite the growing interest in alternatives like Bluesky, none have yet managed to pose a serious threat to X's dominance. Bluesky, which became an independent company in 2021, is still in the early stages of its competition for the top spot among microblogging platforms.

X currently boasts over 600 million monthly active users globally, with around 300 million logging in daily.
