The popular open-world action game Red Dead Redemption 2 will allegedly ship next year.
According to the site Crossmap, "A Reddit user named, AnonDN1978 leaked some information for the upcoming 'Red Dead Redemption 2; ranging from its title to the new characters."
The poster claims he or she is a disgruntled employee of (we can only assume) Rockstar games or Take-Two Interactive. AnonDN1978 said that the main protagonist of the sequel will not be John Marston. The anonymous Redittor also revealed that the title of the sequel will be "Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West."
The Latino Post also produced an anonymous source to bolster the Redittor's claims. The anonymous source named Cyberland posted an image on Imgur saying, "My source says that Rockstar is currently finalizing their plans for GTAV and they are going to focus on RDR2 now. Rockstar expects the game to be out by October next year as long as the devs doesn't hit any road blocks during development. You hyped?"
It can be recalled that it was in July of this year that rumors of a Read Dead Redemption sequel began circulating around the Internet.
The original game, dubbed by some as the "Grand Theft Auto in the old West", was very popular. It earned for itself an IGN score of 9.7/10 back when it was released. It featured a gunslinger mode that allowed the player to target and fire at enemies in slow motion. The game also has a morality system almost similar to the Fallout game's Karma system.
Game developer Rockstar games and publisher Take-Two Interactive is staying mum at the moment. Looking at the official Red Dead Redemption site, the news section has no information confirming or denying that any active development on the sequel is going on.
However, there was an interview in July where Take-Two Interactive emphasized that everything they create going forward will be a franchise, thus lighting the uncontrollable fire of Red Dead 2 speculation among gamers online.
The sequel will eventually raise many questions that the rumors did not address--will it also use the RAGE engine and what platform will it be released on?
