Due to negative public outcry, Square Enix had to cancel the tiered pre-order system of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The pre-order system, according to The Christian Post, will reward people with more incentives depending on how high the tier they will pre-purchase.
The system is basically similar to the reward system of Patreon or Kickstarter. This did not sit well with the very vocal Deus Ex fans because this system will favor rich gamers with more in-game items.
Square Enix was forced to cancel this system earlier last month. "When it was first conceived, we wanted the program to give you more choice about what you received in terms of pre-order incentives... We quickly noticed that this approach created even more frustration than before, resulting in a resounding amount of negative feedback," stated Square Enix in an official blog post.
In effect, all gamers that will pre-order (or will order the day 1 edition) the game will now receive all in-game bonuses that were previously restricted in the tiered system.
The original Deus Ex was a critically acclaimed first person shooter RPG set in a Cyberpunk universe. However, older gamers will remember that Cyberpunk videogames started during the 90's with the release of Shadowrun for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Megadrive. While Deus Ex is not exactly the spiritual successor of Shadowrun, the game has been dubbed as "Cyberpunk done right."
Mankind Divided is set in 2029 which makes it a direct sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution that occurred in 2027. Adam Jensen will return as the main guy in the game.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will ship February 23, 2016 and will cost around $50. You can pre-order the digital version or the physical disc on the official Square Enix store. The game is also available on Steam and the Humble Bundle website.
