Fallout 4, the fifth major installment of Bethesda's beloved post-apocalyptic action RPG, is in a bit of a mess this week. The leaked screenshot controversy which left fans disappointed is a head-scratcher for Bethesda.
There are a couple of leaked screenshots circulating online that were allegedly leaked by a Reddit user. The first image, according to Sam Loveridge of Trusted Reviews, is the in-game menu system showing the standard green color on the left and a power-armored warrior in the background. "The options you get are 'Continue', 'New', 'Settings' and 'Crew'. The Crew option usually means 'credits' as it did in Fallout 3, before you start freaking out about the social/multiplayer connotations of the word," said Loveridge.
The second leaked image is a set-piece with what looks to be a few shanties and a broken chain-link fence. Attack of the Fanboy reporter Socrates Pyliotis noted that the screenshots left many Fallout fanboys disappointed due to the blandness and unexciting scene.
However, Pyliotis countered that, "Although it’s true that the screenshots, available here (the Imgur link that was since removed), aren’t the prettiest that we’ve seen on the PlayStation 4 so far, it’s worth noting that Fallout 4’s world is huge, dynamic and packed with tons to do. Needless to say, a large and dense world comes at the expense of graphical fidelity."
The release of the first Fallout in the mid-90s was celebrated as the game is one of the first CRPGs that explored the genre. The CRPGs during that time were mainly sword and sorcery type games. Fallout drops you as the main protagonist in a post-apocalyptic world where resources are scarce and danger just lurking in every corner of the wasteland.
According to a vague description from IGN, the story of Fallout 4 will again revolve around another vault dweller. This time it will be vault 111 where the dweller will exit, explore, and fight for survival in the harshness of the wasteland.
Fallout 4 will be available this November 10 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
