The shocking twists in the seventh episode of "Gotham" Season 2 Rise of the Villains left many fans in awe. The ongoing war between Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a The Penguin, and Theo Galavan got more violent following Gertrude's death while Edward Nygma's alter ego, The Riddler, took control of him.
Oswald's plan of releasing Gertrude from the Galavans was a success. Together with his band of penguin look-alikes, Oswald was able to infiltrate Theo's party and rescued his mother. But fate turned against him when Butch betrayed him and Tabitha stabbed his mother in the back. Theo ordered Butch to kill his previous employer but Oswald called him a coward for letting Butch do the dirty job for him. Jim Gordon arrived and came face to face with Oswald but the Penguin managed to escape after he slashed Theo's neck.
According to Carter Matt, the aftermath of the Oswald-Theo battle produced some results that many viewers would argue are equally as important to the long-term story. Jim Gordon now has more evidence that proves Theo is not the angel he professes to be after knowing of Gertrude's imprisonment from Oswald.
The loss of his mother took a huge toll on Penguin. Robin Lord Taylor, who plays the role of Penguin, said in a previous interview how Gertrude's death affect Oswald tremendously. According to Mstarz, Taylor said that Oswald will feel a tremendous guilt with his mother's death.
"In a way, his shred of humanity has been ripped away from him. It's a huge transition for him," Taylor added.
Meanwhile, Edward Nygma finally succumbed to his dark alter ego, The Riddler, after the death of Ms. Kringle. According to Entertainment Weekly, dark Ed made the real Ed realize in this episode "that while Kristen's death might be tragic in his eyes as he loved her, he actually enjoyed the killing, hiding the body in sight and not getting caught."
In another story, Silver St. Claire managed to manipulate Bruce Wayne while Selina Kyle watched in the shadows.
The storyline on "Gotham" Season 2 Rise of the Villains gets more and more intriguing and exciting with the villains appearing one by one. Catch them every Monday night at 8pm on FOX.
