A new big screen iteration of the popular colorful rangers is underway in the upcoming Power Rangers. Becky Gomez was recently announced to play as Yellow Ranger while the film was also recently confirmed to contain the original characters.
The popular 90s superhero squad are set to return in the big screen, and as reported by Flickering Myth, singer Becky Gomez has officially jumped on board to play as Yellow Ranger. She completes the rangers along with Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger, and Ludi Lin as Black Ranger.
It was also recently confirmed that the upcoming Power Rangers reboot will feature the main characters in the original film. As reported by Cinema Blend, the film's official Twitter page has confirmed that the film will the characters of Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Billy, and Trini. However, the tweet did not mention the inclusion of the Green Ranger who, in the series, was also not a member of the original team but was recruited along the way and became part of the world-saving squad. Whether or not a Green Ranger will be included in the reboot as well remains to be seen.
No plot details have been revealed yet aside from the fact that the team will be comprised of high school students who will harness their skills to save the world. Several rumors indicate that Scorpina could be the main villain in the film, however, until a confirmation is released, these speculations remain to be fan-based.
Meanwhile, as reported by Den of Geek, the famous streaming service, Netflix, has recently acquired the franchise's tv rights. Although Saban is currently with Nickelodeon and Bandai America until 2016, the rangers will transfer to Netflix for the series' 24th season.
More details about the forthcoming Power Rangers is expected to be revealed when production makes progress. It is set to be directed by Dean Israelite, from screenplay written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. It is scheduled to hit theaters on January 13, 2017.
