Guerrilla Games recently released an 8-minute teaser video during the Paris Game Week for their new action RPG game, Horizon Zero Dawn. The video was only presented behind closed doors during the event, but is now available to the public.
The short video teaser features in-game UI elements, a little bit of gameplay mechanics, and a few fearsome-looking robot dinosaurs.
Aran Suddi of The Sixth Axis gave more information. "While the scenario is familiar to those who have seen both the E3 and Paris Games Week footage there is more information than before. In this footage you can see the health bar that is shaped like an arrowhead, but the final design could change. There’s also the compass at the top of the screen which will show mission objectives, though those have been hidden in this playthrough."
The teaser video that can be found in the official PlayStation YouTube page shows Guerrilla Game's Senior Producer, Mark Norris explaining the things presented in the video.
Aside from the new heads-up-display (HUD) in the game, Norris also explains one mystery game element. In the video, the heroine Aloy is hunting down what looks like a robot dinosaur to get the green canisters behind its back. Norris said that the green liquid-filled canister is a very important resource to the villagers. As to why it is important, he said that he wants it to remain a mystery for now.
Norris also emphasized the floating damage text, loot, and the experience bar that appeared in the video. He said this shows that the game have RPG elements hidden in the action-oriented Shadow Fall Engine. This same engine was used in Guerrilla's First Person Shooter, Killzone.
There were health plants and machine parts in the video. The flame coil, for example, is used to create explosive-tipped arrows. Apparently, these machine parts will make up most of the trade economy in the game.
The setting looks to be a vast open-world ancient city filled with robotic creatures and a few human tribes. The official PS4 Zero Dawn page explains the story in detail. "You are Aloy, a skilled hunter who relies on speed, cunning and agility to stay alive and protect her tribe against the strength, size and raw power of the machines. Against overwhelming odds, you must embark on a compelling, emotional journey to uncover the secrets of a forgotten civilization, the ancient artifacts they left behind, and to learn more about the advanced technologies that will determine the fate of the planet – and of human life itself."
Zero Dawn is a PS4 exclusive and will ship next year. Pre-order discs are available at Amazon, Target, Best Buy, and Walmart for $59.96.
