Chief Executive Officer of BlackBerry Ltd., Thorsten Heins, asked investors for more time and their patience at the company's annual meeting on Tuesday. The request follows a surprise loss in its quarterly reports. The reported loss raised worries about the company's health and its ability for a turnaround.
"BlackBerry is still in the early phases of our transition. This isn't just the launch of a new product but a whole new platform. While many will judge us on the basis of one quarter of a single product, we are not a devices-only product," Heins insisted in the meeting, which was held at the BlackBerry's headquarters in Waterloo, Ontario.
The company had just introduced a new line of BlackBerry devices nearly five months ago. The early sales were not a positive indication of its long-term prospects, Heins said at the meeting. BlackBerry's new flagship Z10 phone did not meet its estimates in its first full quarter on the market.
