'Indiana Jones 5' is an upcoming action-adventure film and is intended as the fifth film in the franchise created by George Lucas. Harrison Ford expressed his eagerness to return as the iconic title character under the direction of Steven Spielberg. The filmmaker is also open to the idea of working with Ford again for a new film.
According to Cinema Blend, Harrison Ford expressed his enthusiasm to reprise his role as the iconic Dr. Henry 'Indiana' Jones, Jr. for a fifth installment. He said, "Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'd love to do another Indiana Jones. A character that has a history and a potential, kind of a rollicking good movie ride for the audience, Steven Spielberg as a director - what's not to like?" Although there are no concrete details regarding the sequel's development, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy announced that a fifth addition to the popular series will happen.
Ford appeared in the previous film 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' with Shia LaBeouf as Indiana's on-screen son and sidekick. The 73-year old actor has long been credited with his work on the series, portraying the pop culture icon since 1981's 'Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark'.
Several media outlets, including Escapist Magazine, initially reported that Ford will be replaced by a younger actor should a reboot happen but it seems that now it will not be the case. Even Chris Pratt's name has been thrown around quite a number of times as a fan casting favorite.
Ford proved to be irreplaceable for Spielberg since the director himself announced that he is likely to work with the actor again for a new film in the series, according to /Film. Even producer Frank Marshall seemed to rule out recasting the lead role despite all the speculations surrounding the character's fate. Marshall said that once they start the ball rolling on the project, they will not be doing the "Bond thing" where they refer to someone else as Indiana Jones.
