'Assassin's Creed' has begun principal photography in Malta. New photos from set were revealed recently by Ubisoft's head of content Asaizia Aymar showing two different Templar blades used in the film. Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are given full control to interpret their respective characters.
According to ComingSoon, Ubisoft Motion Picture's head of content Azaizia Aymar shared new photographs from the filming set on his official Twitter account. The images showed various weapons that looked to be the Templar blades used by Michael Fassbender's character. One of the blades featured the countenance of an old bearded man while the other had a pommel with a cross.
Filming for the live-action adaptation of 'Assassin's Creed' has already commenced in Malta. According to Screen Rant, location manager Joseph Formosa Randon revealed that the most "complex" shoot took place in the capital of Valletta. He said, "...Valletta is the capital, very busy with businesses, lots of residents, narrow streets, limited parking, all the usual fun stuff. We more or less took over, closing main streets for a couple of weeks, and transformed it all into 15th Century Seville."
Fassbender is portraying the main protagonist Callum Lynch while his Academy Award winning co-star Marion Cotillard will be playing a yet confirmed lead role. Ubisoft's CEO Jean Julien Baronnet said that even if the adaptation will remain faithful to the games, it will tell a unique story from the original series. The characters have been especially created for the film but its plot is set in the same universe as the games, according to GamesRadar.
It was reported that the studio is giving the actors control of their roles instead of hindering their creative visions. Baronnet said, "We promised [Fassbender] that he could work with the scriptwriters, that we were going to bring him into all the key creative choices." Justin Kurzel, Fassbender's director for 'Macbeth' is helming the upcoming film.
'Assassin's Creed' is an action-adventure film scheduled to be released on December 21, 2016. It is a live-action adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game of the same name. It will feature an all-star cast that includes Fassbender, Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Michael Kenneth Williams.
