Comcast's Hollywood unit, NBCUniversal, signed Thomas Tull away from Warner Brothers. NBC Universal won against other studios such as Sony and 20th Century Fox.
Tull previously worked as an investment banker. He launched Legendary Entertainment in 2000 with about US$500 million from private equity investors. In 2005, he made a seven-year deal with Warner Brothers. Together, they produced up to 40 films. He was also the producer of Man of Steel and The Dark Knight .
According to a source, the agreement of NBCUniversal and Thomas Tull would be publicized on Wednesday. However, the financial details were not specified.
Legendary provided half the financing for films whose finances reached up to US$200 million. Legendary provided 75% of the US$180 million budget for the latest science fiction movie called Pacific Rim.
Time Warner's unit, Warner Brothers, failed to win a deal with Tull after making a last minute bid for the producer.
Legendary also had an agreement with China's most influential movie corporation, China Film Co.
NBCUniversal believed that Tull and Legendary would be a great asset in achieving its goals.
