Windows 10's November Update Includes A Much-Awaited Feature Not Everyone Will Have

By

Microsoft has officially made available via download early this month its first major update for the Windows 10 operating system, a little over three months since the OS was released in late July.

Microsoft announced that this Windows 10 update, known as Version 1511, would have a number of features and improvements such as faster boot-up performance, improvements in multitasking abilities, as well as more capabilities for Cortana, the digital assistant service built right in the operating system. But perhaps the most noteworthy of the features in this update is a feature that many customers have been requesting since the launch of Windows 10.

Computerworld reports that the Version 1511 update of Windows 10 includes a feature that would allow users to defer updates (patches and fixes Microsoft sends for Windows) and upgrades (new Windows 10 versions that would be rolled out) for up to eight months each. This feature serves to address a major complaint users have with the operating system: little control over the installation of the features Microsoft is pushing out to its customers via Windows Update.

With this feature, customers who are wary of updates and upgrades being pushed to their systems by Microsoft would now have a choice to defer them a bit longer, giving more time for them to ensure their systems would be fully ready for these changes.

There is a catch however, this feature is only being rolled out to certain versions of Windows 10: namely, Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Enterprise, and Windows 10 Education. This would leave out the Windows 10 Home users who form the majority of operating system's user base.

This has naturally not sit well with the Windows 10 Home users. As Forbes noted, "no concessions have been made to mainstream Windows 10 Home users, a group which has been incredibly vocal in its frustration. By now this verges on taunting."

At the moment, there is no word if and when this key feature would be made available for Windows 10 Home users. For the meantime, the frustration of being forced to install updates and upgrades would be a hassle users would have to live with.
