Amazon and Apple have released new updated versions of their set top boxes, and consumers are scouring for information online to help them find out which is a better fit for them.
The Apple TV and the Amazon Fire TV 4k were updated for 2015, and though they look similar, both carry very different features. Latin Post notes how from the outside, the two TV boxes are the same small black boxes designed to be put next to televisions and dvd players.
As per resolution, Amazon holds the advantage over the Apple TV, with a resolution of 4K video at 2,160 pixels to trump Apple's 1,080 pixels tops.
The Apple TV hardware is a smaller 98mm x 98mm x 35mm than the 115 × 115 × 17.5 mm than the Amazon Fire TV, but it's also significantly heavier. The Apple top box set weighs 425 grams, while the Amazon is a much lower 281 grams.
The Apple TV, however, has rebooted the way its remote looks and operates. Apple's website shows users how the remote for the top box set has six buttons and a touchpad that operates the same way a MacBook touchpad would. Amazon's remote remains relatively unchanged for the 2015 version of Fire TV.
The inside of the Amazon Fire TV is considerably transformed with a quad-core MediaTek processor at the heart of the new Fire TV, and a PowerVR GX6250 GPU to improve it for gaming, says Tech Radar. The Apple TV comes with 64-bit A8 processor and 32GB of storage. Amazon's internal storage is at 8GB and expandable to 128GB.
What Apple boasts about most with its new TV, is the inclination the new set has towards apps. Calling it the future of television, the revolution of bringing apps like Netflix, Hulu, WatchESPN, and iTunes make the TV experience a bit more different for television.
Price wise, the Amazon Fire TV comes at $100, whereas the Apple TV sells for $150.
