The development of next installment to the Bioschock franchise referred to as Bioschock 4 by developer 2K has been recently confirmed by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. Following this revelation, a holiday 2016 release date is predicted by some game pundits.
GameSpot reports that the development of BioShock 4 is tasked with 2K Games in California as confirmed by Zelnick. "The franchise is in the hands of 2K," he said. "They'll make announcements in due time about any upcoming releases. But BioShock is unquestionably a permanent franchise for our company and one that we do believe in."
Also, Zelnick added that BioShock is a 'permanent' franchise treated as similar to the popular GTA game series which won't get annual releases in opposite to what other publishers do.
After former Bioshock developer Irrational Games shut down operations in two years ago, Kevin Levine and his few select team started working with Take-Two for a small-scale 'entrepreneurial' sci-fi title which he described to run on Unreal Engine 4 and about "fluid relationships" set in an all-new universe. Although, Levine's latest title still remains under wraps at this point in time.
At the MKM Partners Investor Day Conference in New York City, he revealed saying, "I'm not going to steal Ken's thunder, but we're thrilled to be in business with Ken. What I can say is you would expect that Ken would work on something highly creative and innovative. I think that would be a reasonable expectation for whatever he does next."
Specific details on the next Bioshock title is not announced, however, and whether it will be launched on PS4, Xbox One, PC and or mobile platform title which is hoped to be not the case following the issues found in original Bioshock port made available in the App Store.
As for the release date, game pundits at Geek believe that the earliest would be during the holidays 2016. The past releases were in months of August, February, and March respectively. If the plan is to launch in March 2016, there would have already been some sneak peeks to tease fans what to look forward to in the new Bioshock 4 title.
Bioshock 4 is the fourth installment of the franchise confirmed in development by California-based studio, 2K Marin who's behind Bioshock 2 and XCOM, however, no release window has been announced as of yet. Stay tuned.
