The popular British band, One Direction, settles the result on the winner against their competition with Canadian singer, Justin Bieber. Technically, it turns out to be a tie.
Justin Bieber took the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts, much to 1D's disappointment. Billboard announced on Sunday that Bieber's new album, "Purpose", garnered the top rank after selling 649,000 albums, beating One Direction's "Made In the A.M.," that only sold 459,000 records.
The huge gap in these figures is slamming hard on the boy band, adding to the fact they've been No.1 on the ARIA Albums chart for their previous four albums. But the "Sorry" singer just overstepped 1D, hoarding America's and Australia's sales.
On a lighter note, "Purpose" marks Bieber's comeback which others noted to have contributed in the success of his album.
One Direction might have placed No. 2 on the music charts losing to Bieber, but the quartet managed to equal things out during the 2015 American Music Awards.
One Direction, who's about to go on hiatus, won two awards at the AMAs. The group took home Favorite Pop/Rock Duo or Group Award, as well as being hailed Artist of the Year, defeating the likes of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, and Maroon 5, among others. Of course the members made sure to pay their gratitude to 1D fans after receiving the award onstage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
"This is a testament to how incredible our fans are," Louis Tomlinson said.
"We just want to thank everyone that's helped us in the last five years," Liam Payne added.
So it seems Bieber and 1D's album battle result is technically a tie. Anyway, the fuss on these two is bound to end soon with Adele rolling towards the top with her new album, "25".
As for 1D's fans, whatever the rank of "Made In the A.M." is, it's a special treat to behold before the group leaves on a long hiatus.
