'Indiana Jones 5' is a priority over at Disney and may already be lined-up in the production schedule despite no further details hinting at a concrete date. Steven Spielberg expressed his enthusiasm for another collaboration with leading man Harrison Ford, who plays the titular archaeologist Dr. Jones.
According to Cinema Blend, the planned fifth sequel to the action-adventure franchise following the exploits of fictional archaeologist Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones may have been lost in recent the Star Wars hoopla. It was reported that the science-fiction epic over at Lucasfilm has several projects lined up including three new sequels, a spin-off for Han Solo and even a planned trilogy for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Lucasfilm Chief Kathleen Kennedy implied that 'Indiana Jones 5' has its own place on Disney's production schedule but remained mum on actual details. She said, "I've talked about it with everybody at Disney. Alan [Horn, chair of Walt Disney Studios] is very supportive of it. But at the same time, he's right when he says we've got a lot on our plate. And then I'll be working with them on Indiana Jones."
An article by The Mary Sue reported that Harrison Ford, who played the titular character in all four cinematic releases in the franchise, expressed his keenness on returning as the iconic Dr. Jones in a new sequel. He added that working with director Steven Spielberg was one of the best things of returning to the series.
According to the Guardian, Spielberg himself seemed excited over a possible collaboration with Ford saying, "I can't wait to work with you on Indiana Jones 5. This is not an announcement, just my fervent hope."
The acclaimed filmmaker directly addressed the 73-year old actor during a taped tribute at the British Academy Britannia Awards in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles where Ford was honored with the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution for Entertainment.
J. J. Abrams, Ford's director for the upcoming 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens', was tasked at handing Ford his award. The actor received a standing ovation but it was Spielberg's speech that generated thorough anticipation.
'Indiana Jones 5' is a planned sequel to 2008's 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'. The preceding film earned $786 million in the box office but received mixed reviews from critics. The new film is intended to be a fifth in the series was created by George Lucas.
