Splatoon commendations and updates are piling up this year. Just last month, the Wii U exclusive got a huge patch update that improved match-making and other gameplay elements. This week, Splatoon got a couple of weapon updates and it even received a BAFTA Children's Award.
Nintendo Life reported that Splatoon won the 2015 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Children's Award for Best Game. Nintendo's cartoony FPS beat out Yoshi's Woolly World and the console edition of Minecraft and Adventure Time Game Wizard.
The award on Splatoon puts the game in the same league as other less-violent games like Lego Batman, Skylanders, Mario Kart 8, and Little Big Planet.
In addition to that, Nintendo is also gearing up continued development on the game with a couple of weapon updates released this week.
Jenni of Siliconera reported, "Splatoon is receiving a second weapon update this week. Hot on the heels of the Bamboozler 14 Mk II comes a Hydra Splatling. The Hydra Splatling is the Splatoon equivalent of a gatling gun and provides varying range and strength depending on how long it is charged."
The Splatling will have the Splat Bomb as a sub weapon and an echo locator as its special. Jenni said that the locator will prove useful in Tower Control and Rainmaker Ranked Battles where knowing enemy locations will help opposing players develop strategies.
Another weapon update called the Slosher Deco was released this week. Dual Shockers describes the weapon. "Sloshers are a bucket type weapon that throw a large amount of ink at once in a mid-ranged arc. The 'Deco' variation of the Slosher is a reskinned variation of the weapon with a different Sub Weapon (Splash Wall) and Special Weapon (Kraken)."
Splatoon is also a nominee for The Game Awards in the best FPS category. However, Splatoon will have to edge out games like Destiny, Call of Duty, Halo 5, and Battlefront. The Game Awards will be held live from LA this December 3, 2015.
