Telenor Group named a new Chief Executive Officer for Telenor Myanmar. The company appointed Petter Furberg for the position, effective upon approval from relevant Myanmar authorities. As CEO, Furberg will be responsible for the roll-out of modern telecommunications network as well as other related services.
Furberg was no newcomer in Telenor. He joined the company 14 years ago, holding several positions in senior management. This included his current position as Chief Financial Officer in dtac, the second largest mobile operator in Thailand, where Telenor held shares. Another position Furberg held was Senior Vice President, Head of Financial Services at Telenor Group. Before joining Telenor Group, he was with Norwegian Ministry of Finance and the Norwegian Parliament.
Regarding the appointment, Sigve Brekke, Executive Vice President and Head of Telenor Asia, said: "Mr. Furberg's appointment as CEO is testament to his excellent record of achievement with Telenor, including more than a decade working in Asia. His proven operational experience places Mr. Furberg in the best position to steer Telenor in this critical next stage in the implementation of our business strategy and development in Myanmar."
