In the past few months, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire has been releasing many Event Pokemon, usually to promote or commemorate releases and other related events. And after months of waiting after its release in Japan, North America will now be able to grab the mischievous genie Hoopa at McDonalds.
This event, featuring the Legendary Pokemon Hoopa, is to commemorate the release of the Pokemon ORAS Happy Meal of McDonalds. This specific Hoopa is available to download on both Pokemon ORAS and Pokemon XY from Nintendo Zones at participating McDonalds branches in the US from November 7 to December 23, 2015. Not every restaurant would be participating, however, and you can only get them by turning on your 3DS in a participating branch and receiving it through the Mystery Gift. And if you managed to avail of a previous Hoopa from the serial code distribution event, you get to keep both of them, since they use a different serial code.
As noted in Serebii.net, the Legendary Pokemon Hoopa's initial form is the very first Ghost/Psychic dual typed Pokemon ever, much to the intrigue of the fan base, and its gimmick of messing with people and stealing anywhere from trinkets to castles using its portals seems to be a reference to the mythical tricksters, the Djinn, further reinforced by its ability to switch forms by using the Prison Bottle item, which is currently only available in Pokemon ORAS. Its initial form (Confined) was first teased on the February issue of CoroCoro Magazine, and its alternate, more powerful form (Unbound) was shown on the May issue of the same magazine.
Hoopa was already distributed in Japan, Europe and certain American-region countries earlier on in separate events, but this will be its debut for the North American players. This particular Hoopa's moveset includes Psychic, Astonish, Nasty Plot and its signature move, Hyperspace Hole.
Pokemon ORAS and XY are available to play on the Nintendo 3DS, and distribution events like this now happen more often with the advent of WiFi capability in Nintendo devices, though there are currently no other upcoming events announced. Previous distribution events included the Sly Zoroark, the three Johto starters in their final evolutions, and a special Diancie.
