Development studio EA Digital Illusions CE, or DICE, has just released the first free expansion pack for "Star Wars Battlefront" titled "Battle of Jakku." However, only those who purchased the main game ahead of its official release in November will be able to access the DLC, according to Comingsoon.net.
In the timeline of the "Star Wars" film franchise, the Battle of Jakku is the first major confrontation between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire following the events that took place in the Battle of Endor, which was featured in 1983's "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi." In its sequel, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the planet Jakku is shown as a desolate region ravaged by war.
In the "Battle of Jakku" DLC, gamers will be able to recreate the clashes between the Rebels and Imperial forces that took place on the planet. For instance, the content update's Turning Point mode allows up to 40 players to engage in an all-out-war on Jakku, PC Gamer reported.
The main objective in this mode is for the Rebel forces to hold a specific region in the map. They must be able to hold this position and ward off the advancing enemy troops, which are controlled by other players, for a certain amount of time.
Once gamers playing for the Rebels' side are able to successfully capture a certain position, a new point will appear on the map. They must also capture this new point until they are able to advance and capture the main base of the Imperial forces. Aside from soldiers, players will also be able to utilize AT-ST Walkers and airspeeders during the battles.
As mentioned earlier, those who pre-ordered "Star Wars Battlefront" can already play "Battle of Jakku" while the rest will be able to get the free DLC once it officially comes out on Dec. 8. The game is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Those who are still waiting to get the expansion pack can get a glimpse of its gameplay through a short footage posted by Gamespot.
