Enchanted Sequel Update: “Disenchanted” working title revealed

By

Development on the sequel of the highly successful live-action Disney movie, "Enchanted", is currently picking up pace. According to Collider, the most significant update so far is the revelation of a working title: "Disenchanted".

The movie "Enchanted" premiered in theaters in 2007. As a modern live-action twist on the classic Disney fairytale formula, it was both a commercial and critical success. It garnered three Academy Award nominations for veteran composers Alan Menken and Stephen Shwartz for Best Original Song. "Enchanted" earned $340.5 million worldwide, and Disney was initially interested in developing it into a franchise.

There have been talks of a sequel in the years immediately following that, but nothing significant has materialized until now. In 2010, Jessie Nelson ("I Am Sam", "Stepmom"), was hired to pen the script for a sequel. Annie Fletcher ("27 Dresses", "The Proposal") was hired to direct. In 2014, early drafts of the script were scrapped.

J. David Stem and David N. Weiss ("Shrek 2", "The Smurfs") were then hired to write a new screenplay. As of 2015, Stem and Weiss are working hard on the script to get it ready for approval, and Fletcher is still on board as director. Barry Sonnenfeld and Barry Josephson are set to produce the film. Of course, the original cast members are expected to return, but nothing is still set in stone.

Over the years, Amy Adams, who gave an all-out performance as Princess Giselle of Andalasia, is open to reprising her role. Adams recently told Moviefone that she really likes "Enchanted" and has positive feelings for it overall. James Marsden, who starred as Giselle's intended prince and husband-to-be, also expressed his interest in doing a sequel. Marsden gave one of the best and most hilarious performances of his career as the ever confident and dauntless Prince Edward.

In an exclusive interview on his movie "Hop", Marsden stated candidly that he and Adams are getting older, and if filming doesn't happen soon, they would outgrow their original roles. He added that he knows of the minimal developments, but will only believe there's a sequel when he finally has the script on hand and filming is ongoing.
