Within days after Night Dive Studios announced that it is working on a remake for the action RPG classic "System Shock," the development company released screenshots to show its progress. As seen in the images posted by Polygon, sharper and more detailed graphics will be featured in the new "System Shock" game.
The gaming news site even included side-by-side shots comparing the remake with the original game. Based on the images, it can be clearly seen that the upcoming "System Shock" is currently being developed specifically for modern-day consoles.
According to Stephen Kick, the CEO of Night Dive Studios, the company is using Unity to create the remake of "System Shock," Bloody Disgusting reported. This is the same game engine that was used to develop various titles across multiple platforms such as "Angry Birds 2," "Fallout Shelter," "Deus Ex: The Fall" and "Ori and the Blind Forest."
The executive also noted that Night Dive Studios closely working with the first development team of "Night Shade" in creating the remake. This includes Robert Waters, who worked on the concept art for the original game.
"We have been in contact with members of the original 'System Shock' team and any future iterations of the 'System Shock' games, and by this I mean both new titles in the series as well as major updates to the existing games, will be very true to the spirit of the originals," Kick told Polygon.
It was in 1994 that Looking Glass Technologies released the original "System Shock" game. Set in a three-dimensional environment, the game requires players to navigate inside a space station and take on enemy forces controlled by an evil artificial intelligence program known as Shodan.
Earlier in September of this year, Night Dive Studios released "System Shock: Enhanced Edition." Although it served as an updated version of the game, it was not considered as the full remake of "System Shock." The studio was only able to proceed with the official remake after acquiring the intellectual property rights to the game, according to VG247.
Night Dive Studios has not yet announced a release date for the "System Shock" reboot but the game is expected to come out for the PC and consoles.
