On Oct 27, 2015, at the Paris Games Week event, the new installment of the Gran Turismo franchise, Gran Turismo SPORT was announced, and as per tradition, is exclusive for PlayStation 4.
Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, confirms that the company isn't ready to announce Gran Turismo 7's release date yet, and is speculated that this is because the game simply isn't done yet. He did announced the Gran Turismo SPORT release date and confirmed it isn't a prologue version of the seventh installment, and so far, what is confirmed is that there will be a demo to be released sometime in spring 2016, with the full game following sometime that year, although the exact release date is still unconfirmed.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Jim Ryan explained that Sport will be like the Prologue games, but more substantial:
"We're not announcing Gran Turismo 7 at this stage. (...) This will be much more than a Prologue type experience."
Apart from this, there are some interesting tidbits being revealed about the game. The dedicated Gran Turismo fansite, GTPlanet, has uncovered a few more details about the game. It stated that Gran Turismo SPORT will have three different play modes. The three modes apparently will be called 'Campaign', 'Sports Mode' and 'Arcade Mode' and would supposedly feature online racing, virtual tournaments and championships that will be officially recognized by the FIA. It will also have VR support and improvements on the general physics, graphics and audio.
The Gran Turismo franchise is a long-running series which has been around since 1997, and has, up until the past few years, boasted the best graphics and the largest playable car list in any racing game. While it is no longer the most realistic racing game in terms of physics and graphics, is still hosts the widest selection of cars that have been licensed for use, it is still used as the flagship game of the PlayStation console's graphics capabilities, and sponsors real world races and the GT Academy, an international racing competition that lets the best players of Gran Turismo compete for the chance to become professional, real-life racers.
