Michael Giacchino is officially on board the production team for Pixar's "The Incredibles 2". On November 25, Brad Bird, writer and director of the highly-anticipated sequel, announced Giacchino's involvement on Twitter, in a tweet including a GIF of Giacchino signing his contract. Giacchino responded with a re-tweet of Bird's announcement, and a statement expressing his enthusiasm to be collaborating again with "The Incredibles" family.
Giacchino, a much sought-after composer in Hollywood, is quite the busy bee. Among his project lineups are music scores for films like "Cars 3", "Star Trek Beyond", "War of the Planet of the Apes", and a "Jumanji" remake. He is currently working on "Zootopia" for Disney's "The Mouse House", and will immediately move on to The Incredibles 2 after that. Giacchino has also worked on musical scores for "Inside Out", "Jurassic World", "Up", and "Cars 2".
Bird and Giacchino aren't strangers when it comes to working together. Both have invested in the first film of The Incredibles franchise. Bird wrote the script and directed it. Giacchino composed the music, which went on to win awards for best original score at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Las Vegas Film Critics Society Award, ASCAP Film and Television Music Award, BMI Film & TV Award, Online Film Critics Society Award, and the Annie Awards. The successful score was an homage to music from the 1960s, particularly music from spy films of that era.
Bird and Giacchino's recent collaboration was on Disney's "Tomorrowland", a sci-fi mystery adventure film. They have also worked on "Ratatouille" and "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol".
The Incredibles 2 is slated for a June 21, 2019 release. While official cast and plot details are still unknown, Samuel L. Jackson inadvertently gave some spoilers. According to Cross Map, Jackson revealed that Bird has continually assured him that his villainous character, Lucius Best, aka "Frozone", is an integral part of the sequel. Jackson believes in that and added that Frozone "would be a wonderful addition" to the existing story. He is also excited to know more about Jack-Jack, the youngest of the Incredibles, and a baby on the first film. There is speculation that the sequel would focus more on an adolescent Jack-Jack, and his conflict on controlling his emerging super powers and abilities. If this is the case, the story will be set 11 years after the first film, which is how it is in real time now.
