Hyrule Legends Warriors New Character: Skull Kid Enters the Scene!

By

On November 25, 2015, a gameplay trailer from Koei Tecmo's official YouTube channel revealed that Hyrule Warriors Legends will be seeing the Skull Kid from Majora's Mask as a playable fighter.

Skull Kid is a recurring race in the Legend of Zelda series, but this particular Skull Kid's appearance was the cause of much joy and horror within the fanbase. In his original appearance in Majora's Mask, he was the primary antagonist and is the cause of the main crisis of the game. Since then, his iconic appearance wearing the titular mask have made minor cameo appearances in other Zelda games, but this will be the first time the character will play a major role aside from his original appearance in Majora's Mask. From the gameplay trailer released, his play style involves commanding his Fairy companions, Tatl and Tael, into using sweeping moves using what appears to be the Fairy Ocarina, summoning Puppets to aid him, and using the dark magic powers gained from the mask he wears.

Hyrule Warriors Legends is a spin-off of the popular game franchise Legend of Zelda, and is a port of the Wii U exclusive game, Hyrule Warriors. The game is being developed by Nintendo in collaboration with Tecmo Koei's Omage Force development team, which is known for the Dynasty Warriors games. The gameplay of Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors Legends takes many cues from the Dynasty Warriors gameplay, in which the player can control characters and fight against hoards of enemies using a flashy hack-and-slash battle mechanic. As the game progresses, more characters with different play styles and movesets can be unlocked and played. Hyrule Warriors Legends will feature an updated roster, some 3DS-exclusive characters, and the ability to unlock some of the new Hyrule Warriors Legends characters by connecting with the Wii U port, Hyrule Warriors.

Hyrule Warriors Legends is set to be released on March 26, 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS, and can be pre-ordered for $39.99 in selected retailers. According to Nintendo, pre-orders get an exclusive costume DLC pack for Link or Zelda. Previously revealed characters included the King of Hyrule, Toon Link and a female version of Link named Linkle.
