Xiaomi Mi5 which was supposed to be launched in November is now confirmed to hit the market January next year. The device's specifications and features which were hinted by Xiaomi's CEO to be worth the wait, were also detailed.
International Business Times reports that the Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun hinted during the launch event of Redmi Note 3, Mi Pad 2, Mi Water purifier 2 that Mi5's development is still underway. Lei Jun also revealed that he already tried the device's prototype and was highly impressed.
Though nothing more was spilled, Chinese market analyst Pan Jiutang claimed that Xiaomi Mi5 will be released in January 2016 and hit the stores on 8th of February, the first day of the Chinese Year of the Monkey.
Meanwhile, Latin Post stated some of the possible features that the Xiaomi Mi5 might carry. It might try the 3D touch technology after the Chinese tech company was supposed to do a patent of the similar tech. Additionally, there are also talks regarding the possibility of the unit to be equipped with the Sense ID feature from Qualcomm which is also known as the ultrasonic fingerprint sensing technology.
The Xiaomi Mi5 could be engineered with either Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC or the ten-core Helio X20 from Mediatek. The former supports Qualcomm's Ultrasound technology while the latter is hands-down the faster chipset. This smartphone will feature a 5.3-inch screen with a 1440 x 2560 Quad HD display. It is predicted to be packed with a 4 GB RAM, and a 16 GB or 64 GB of internal memory models with no support for micro-SD expansion.
As for the camera, a 16-megapixel back camera with dual-LED flash and 8-megapixel front-facing snapper is expected from the upcoming smartphone. Apart from that, it could also house a 3,030 mAh capacity battery, have support for USB Type-C Connector and run on the company's home grown Android-based OS known as the MIUI 7.
When it comes to the price, the Mi5 is said to cost ¥1,999 in China which is approximately $316. However, the possible buyers in the U.S. shouldn't expect too much from the Xiaomi Mi5 as Jun stated this week that China is still the primary market. He also explained that it will take some time before Xiaomi makes its way to other regions like Japan or the U.S.
