‘The Witness’ News: New Video of ‘The Witness’ Shows Braid Creator’s Music-Free Game Design

By

The Witness director, Jonathan Blow, updated the game's official blog and shared details on the game's story, soundtrack, and a huge map with hundreds of puzzles. In a new post on The Witness's website, Blow displayed a short video with a strange long screenshot that revealed a music-free game design.

Blow noted that the reason news outlets haven't heard anything about "The Witness's" soundtrack yet, is because it doesn't really have one. Instead of music, its concept depends on a quiet landscape that is designed to be atmospheric. The Witness is a game about being perceptive, noticing subtleties in the puzzles you find and the details in the world around you. Den of Geek quoted Blow, "If we slather on a layer of music that is just arbitrarily playing, and not really coming from the world, then we're adding a layer of stuff that works against the game. It would be a layer of insulation that you have to hear through in order to be more present in the world."

To bring that vision into life, the team has worked with Wabi Sabi Sound. It has been responsible for the sound design of acclaimed titles, "Ori and the Blind Forest" and "Dead Space." There will be some voice recordings and music that will be incorporated into the game, to discover links into the past and present, reported Mega Games.

Aside from this, The Witness boasts of 677 puzzles that is equivalent to 100 hours of gameplay. The island has 11 different sections, and one must complete at least eight of them to see the end credits, noted Design & Trend.

For gamers around the world, The Witness will be localized in 15 different languages through a subtitle system. Expect to know more about The Witness, as its January 26 launch date approaches. The game will be available on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC, while an iOs version is still in the works.
