The LG G2 is a relatively old phone, but it will not be lagging behind in terms of firmware updates as the LG handset will be receiving a CyanogenMOD 13 custom ROM based on the Android Marshmallow mobile OS.
Despite its age, the LG G2 still gives a lot of value to its users, packing powerful processing power and promising camera resolution and features. The €240 smartphone will still be seeing updates like the Doze mode and improved user interface designs that the Marshmallow promises through a custom ROM, says Tech Frag.
The last upgrade prior to the independently built CM13 custom ROM was the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop firmware. However, the new custom ROM is only limited to LG G2 with d800, d801, d802, d803, and vs980 models that are carried by AT&T, T-Mobile, LTE International, Canada and Verizon only.
CyanogenMod gives the download links to the custom-built ROM that follows the Android 6.0 Marshmallow build. It's also important to remember that any custom ROM installed renders any company warranty void, which probably won't be a problem for old LG G2 owners whose warranty should be expired by now.
Device owners that opt to upgrade their LG G2 should have their phones rooted before going ahead with a ROM update, and the installation of the custom ROM will need a clearing of the memory in the phone, so owners must make sure to back all the data by installing Clockwork Mod (CWM) Recovery/ TWRP in their smartphone.
The phone must also have a USB driver installed on the PC and must have at least 80% of battery charged up to avoid the smartphone getting bricked in the installation process. Other installation instructions are lined up in International Business Times India.
LG has been very keen on quickly updating their phones' firmware, as the LG G4 was one of the first handsets to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update when it was launched last year in Poland and other parts of Europe this month.
