New Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ Advertisement Released

By

Recently, a cute little advertisment promoting Kingdom Hearts Unchained was released last week on December 1st. The advertisment runs for a total of 15 seconds, featuring a pop-up book stage, a life-sized Keyblade prop, a glimpse of the game play and even one of Tetsuya Nomura's cats providing a kitty cameo. The advertisement was posted on the official Square Enix Japan YouTube channel, completely in Japanese, of course . While the reaction to it was somewhat low-key, many fans found it fittingly adorable for the game.

Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is a mobile game adaptation of the Kingdom Hearts χ browser game. Both games tell the tale of the setting prior to the Keyblade War, a cataclysmic event that wiped out most of the Keyblade wielders prior to the story. The gameplay is simple, with a customized avatar of the player traversing Disney-inspired worlds to fight Heartless, and also features a multiplayer option where the player and others can team up to defeat bosses and challenges in the game. The game itself has heavy connections to the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3, featuring details such as the prophecy that foretells the fall of light, the events leading to the Keyblade War, and the legendary χ-blade, a weapon forged by the purest light and darkness and serves as one of the central sources of conflict for the Dark Seeker saga.

On a different note, it was a surprise to hear that at one point, an animated television adaptation of Kingdom Hearts was under production, but was recently cancelled due to the animated series being a "vastly different interpretation" of the series proper, according to IGN.

Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ was released on September 3, 2015 and is available for mobile phones and devices. The current version available is in Japanese, while the North American version is still currently planned to be released on an unspecified date.
