Fans breathed a sigh of relief when it was confirmed that the Legend of Zelda Wii U is still coming next rear, according to the most recent episode of Nintendo Direct.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the game will not meet its 2015 release expectations and will be bumped up to a 2016 release instead. But after months of no news, the fanbase fell into speculation about its delay. But the most recent episode of Nintendo Direct, which is the first episode released since Satoru Iwata, former CEO of Nintendo, passed away last July, was very informative about future releases of their games in development and such. Some brief footage of the game was shown after the blurb on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, with the date 2016 superimposed on it. There's some mild speculation beforehand that The Legend of Zelda Wii U would be released in time for the new console, Nintendo NX, to come out, but seeing as the release for the new console is speculated for at least 2017, the rumors have petered down, and switched back to speculation on the "Link's" new appearance, and iDigital Times speculate on how the Motion Controls would be handled.
The Legend of Zelda Wii U will be an action-adventure, open-world adventure where Link would be able to explore a vast overworld with less emphasis on defined exits and entrances to dungeons. This game will also challenge and alter the iconic gameplay of the Legend of Zelda series, like completing the dungeons in a certain order and would apparently bring back the basics of the original Zelda games.
In other news, it appears as if the fan favorite, gender-swapped version of Link is going to make more appearances in the future, giving us what might possibly be the first female Link in Legend of Zelda. In an interview with IGN, Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma says "I'm sure we will keep her in mind when thinking about future titles," when asked about the character and her appearances. He then goes on to say that the reception of her character prompted the developers to consider her for future titles.
The Legend of Zelda Wii U will be available exclusively for the Wii U once released. Hyrule Warriors Legends will be released on March 25, 2016 for the 3DS, and preorders are available for $39.99.
