Following the announcement regarding the delay of "Mirror's Edge Catalyst," development studio EA Digital Illusions CE or DICE detailed some of the improvements that it is currently working on for the reboot title. According to the company, the new version of 2008's "Mirror's Edge" will sport a few notable gameplay and storyline changes.
According to Movie Pilot, DICE announced in October that the launch of the game has been delayed to May of next year. The studio explained that the development team needs more time to work on certain aspects of the game.
One of these factors is the title's overall gameplay. As noted by the news site, the original "Mirror's Edge" game was criticized by players due to its motion sickness issues. Apparently, the combination of the game's high frame rate and three-dimensional platform setting caused some gamers to feel dizzy while playing it. DICE was able to fix this issue by reducing the overall graphic quality of "Mirror's Edge."
For its remake, DICE noted that it is currently fine-tuning the movements and angles of the game's camera to make sure that it remains stable as the characters jump and run in first-person view. The studio assured fans of the game that despite the camera changes, the visual quality of the upcoming game will not look and feel rigid.
As for the game's plot, Crossmap reported that the game will take place in the fictional City of Glass. This is a massive open-world area ruled by totalitarian corporations. According to DICE, the upcoming game will also contain various missions that will take place in different parts of the city. It will also feature a deeper plot and a more interactive environment.
As noted by the developer, "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" will come out on May 24 next year. This was also confirmed by EA COO Peter Moore during the recent Credit Suisse Technology, Media and Telecom Broker Conference, according to PlayStation Lifestyle. The game will be available for the Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 once it debuts.
