Legends of Tomorrow's superheroes fight against immortal Vandal Savage in unending time travel crossover

With superhero teams gaining new popularity on TV these days, the upcoming "Legends of Tomorrow" raises the stakes by compelling an oddball gang of heroes and anti-heroes to join forces to prevent the evil immortal Vandal Savage from destroying the time stream and, with it, the universe.

With audience expectation high, the new series has already been given the green light for a full season from its network The CW. "Legends of Tomorrow" is set to premiere on January 2016.

The new poster seen in the Waltonian reveals the unlikely members of the new superteam who would have a hard time adjusting (to put it mildly) to each other: the human nuclear reactor Firestorm (Victor Garber); the assassin White Canary (Caity Lotz); the miniaturized man of might, the Atom (Brandon Routh); Captain Cold (Wentworth MIller), the man with the freeze gun; and his partner in crime, Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), whose flame-igniting weapon burns people down.

These characters are familiar to viewers of the two interrelated hit superhero series, "Arrow" and 'The Flash," which also air on The CW. Caspar Crump's big bad guy, Vandal Savage, who is at least as old as the Egyptian pyramids, also appeared in a much-applauded crossover in those two series. He almost beat Team Flash and Team Arrow and nuked Central City, if it had not been for The Flash's (Grant Gustin) time-traveling activities.

As shown in Digital Trends, the new trailer of "Legends of Tomorrow" show more of Savage's origins, how Hunter (Arthur Darvill) fits into the fray, and the other heroes joining in like Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee).

"Legends of Tomorrow" will run for 15 episodes. The CW is not scrimping on quality, not when it comes to the script, the cast, and even the directors. Den of Geek just reported that popular film director Joe Dante, who made "Gremlins" and "Small Soldiers" come to life, will helm episode 8.
