"Star Trek Beyond" is one of the lucky films to snag the much-coveted trailer time on the premiere day of Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond will be among the movie trailers audiences will get to see before watching Star Wars VII on December 18.

That Star Trek was able to snag this prime trailer time is not just down to luck. JJ Abrams, the director of Star Wars VII also happens to be the producer of Star Trek Beyond, via his production company based at Paramount Pictures, Bad Robot. Abrams directed the first two films in the Star Trek reboot-"Star Trek" in 2009, and "Star Trek: Into the Darkness in 2013, before opting out of directing the third installment to direct Star Wars VII.

Films confirmed to share trailer time with Star Trek are Captain America: Civil War and X-Men: Apocalypse. Other 2016 movie trailers likely to secure a slot are Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Independence Day: Resurgence, The Huntsman: Winter's War, The Jungle Book (live-action), Finding Dory, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

The theatrical release of Star Trek Beyond coincides with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. In an interview with ComingSoon.Net, actor and co-writer Simon Pegg revealed he had fun writing the script. He said Star Trek beyond is "going to be spectacular", while still trying to maintain the optimistic philosophy of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.

According to Movie Pilot, one of the things fans can expect from the third movie is character development, which gives viewers insight into other supporting characters and not just Spock and Captain Kirk. Another is entertaining banter between the crew which is a highlight in the original TV series and shows a good cast dynamic. Director Justin Lin ("The Fast and the Furious" 3-6) also reveals the plot of the film to focus on space exploration, which takes it back to the spirit of the original series.

Star Trek Beyond is a sci-fi action film based on the original "Star Trek" TV series. It is currently the thirteenth installment in the entire Star Trek franchise, and the third in the reboot series. The trailer comes seven months before the film's worldwide premiere on July 22, 2016.

Returning cast includes Anton Yelchin as Checkhov, Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, John Cho as Sulu, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Zachary Quinto as Spock, and Zoe Saldana as Uhura. Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella also star.
