Kathleen Kennedy, the head of Lucasfilm, confirmed that the production company is still interested in working on the third-person shooter "Star Wars" game cancelled by The Walt Disney Studios in 2013. The executive also noted the possibility of reviving its other abandoned projects, just like "Star Wars 1313".
"Star Wars 1313" was first unveiled by Lucasfilm in 2012, according to Tech Insider. Unlike other "Star Wars" titles, the game did not focus on the Jedis, the Force, or the clashes between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
Instead, the story line of the game centered on the fan-favorite Boba Fett during his young adult years. Working as a bounty hunter, he roams the underground region of the city-planet Coruscant known as Level 1313 to track down and capture smugglers, thieves and other criminals of the galaxy.
IGN has a copy of the trailer on YouTube released by Lucasfilm showing off the artwork and gameplay of "Star Wars 1313," and it was clear at that time that the game was already in mid-development. However, due to Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm, work on the game was put on hold. Then in 2013, Disney announced that it had ceased all projects of Lucasfilm to focus on the "Star Wars" films.
But recently, during an interview with news site SlashFilm, Kennedy noted that that there is still a strong chance that the game and the other cancelled projects such as the live-action television series "Star Wars: Underground" will be developed again. Despite being cancelled, the executive assured fans of the "Star Wars" franchise that the company has no intention of throwing them away.
"So our attitude is, we don't want to throw away any of that stuff," Kennedy said. "It's gold. And it's something we're spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further. We definitely want to."
Despite the executive's statements, it is not yet clear when Lucasfilm will launch "Star Wars 1313" or what consoles it will debut on. But given the recent trend in the gaming industry, the game will most likely come out for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
