‘One Piece Burning Blood’ updates, gameplay & release date: Game’s release date for 2016 confirmed

A local magazine in Japan has revealed that "One Piece: Burning Blood" will be released in that country in April of 2016. However, it is not yet confirmed exactly when the game will arrive for the U.S. market next year.

According to Youth Health Magazine, the latest issue of the "Weekly Jump" magazine confirmed that the upcoming installment in Bandai Namco's "One Piece" video game series will debut on April 21, 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Japanese gamers will be able to purchase the PlayStation 4 version of the game for 7,800 yen or around $64 while its handheld version will cost 6,800 yen or roughly $56. It was not mentioned how much the Xbox One version of the game will cost.

But aside from the release date, Gematsu noted that the front page of the magazine shows the main character Monkey D. Luffy using his Gear Fourth technique. In the "One Piece" universe, this ability lets Luffy bulk up the muscles in his upper body and gain massive arms.

In addition to appearing physically bigger, the Gear Fourth technique also gives the character superhuman strength and speed. However, as a side effect of his size, Luffy's balance becomes more unstable and his long range attacks also decrease. It is not yet clear if Bandai Namco will incorporate these factors in "One Piece: Burning Blood" when gamers use the Gear Fourth ability.

As for the other gameplay elements, Gamespot reported that the game currently has a total of 14 confirmed playable characters. Aside from Luffy, "One Piece: Burning Blood" also features a different version of the character that's two years older. The other characters that are included in the game are Franky, Roronoa Zoro, Trafalgar Law, Portgas D. Ace, Bartolomeo, Sabo, Smoker, Eneru, Crocodile, Aokiji, X. Drake and Doflamingo Donquixote.

As previously reported, "One Piece: Burning Blood" will utilize an advanced battle system and will focus on Devil Fruits and Logia abilities. Through these, players will be able to execute different kinds of special attacks and blocks.

Currently, "One Piece: Burning Blood" does not have an official launch date for North America. But since the game's release date has already been revealed for Japan, Bandai Namco will probably unveil details of its U.S. debut within the next few weeks.
