Sony Pictures' The Equalizer 2 continues with Denzel Washington as the series' main protagonist, Robert McCall. Moreover, Sony is still intalks with the original's film director, Antoine Fuqua, for a possible second run with Washington.

Two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington's ruthless vigilante Robert McCall is set to return on the big screen in September 2017 for another thrilling round of hunting justice. The former black ops/ CIA agent went back to his cold-blooded method just to ensure the safety of Teri, played by Chloe Moretz, against the violence of Russian mobsters. After serving vengeance to the people who brutalize the lives of others, McCall's own desire for the continued justice has been reinstituted and makes an online advertisement labelled as The Equalizer that put excitement to the audience who are hoping for a sequel.

Sony announced that the Equalizer 2 was already in plans seven months prior to the premier of the first film in September of 2014. Sony, together with Escape Artists, are eyeing Richard Wenk to write the script. After a sequel is confirmed by Sony in April 2015, Denzel Washington is anticipated to return for his character with Chloe Moretz and Marton Csokas as their respective ones. The studio hasn't verified a director since Antoine Fuqua is in talks of the remake of The Magnificent Seven, also casting Denzel Washington with Ethan Hawke. Nonetheless, in an interview of Variety with Fuqua in 2014, the director stated "if Denzel wants to do another one, I'm there", citing that the vigilant character can go more international and that there are a lot of room for development.

The audience would love to see another taste of retribution done by Robert McCall through delivering the hand of God to those who oppose the law and to straighten the unruly ways of those who declare themselves their own authority.

The Equalizer 2 is the follow-up film for the 2014's neo-noir crime thriller film that was a sleeper hit. Antoine Fuqua's adaptation of the 1980 TV series generated a total of $192 million ticket revenues during its theatrical run and an opening day of $34.1 million. There is still no announcements regarding the possible return of the whole cast for the sequel.
