“Placentophagy: Eating Placenta”: A Practice of What Kim Kardashian-West is Planning to Do After Birth of Saint West

By

Eating placentas seems to make some sense nowadays. Some moms practice this for the belief that eating Placenta will protect them against Postpartum Depression (PPD). The placenta is full with iron, vitamin B6 and B12, as well as estrogens and progesterone, both important for postpartum hormones. One of the celebrity moms who do this kind of practice is Kim Kardashian-West who just gave birth to her second child, Saint West, with husband, Kanye West last December 5, 2015.

Kardashian heard many stories during her pregnancy with her daughter, North, that there are moms who don't eat their placenta after the birth of their first child and suffered Postpartum Depression, but after taking Placenta pills with their second baby, they didn't go through Postpartum Depression. "So I thought why not try it?" she said. "What do I do I have to lose?"

The celebrity got her placenta dried, freezed and transformed into pills in order to ingest them easily. She really believes that consuming her own hormones will help her avoid illnesses.

"I had great results and felt so energized and didn't have any signs of depression!" Kim writes. "I definitely had to do it again. Every time I take a pill, I feel a surge of energy and feel really healthy and good. I totally recommend it for anyone considering it!"

Kim is not the only one in the family member who executed this, her oldest sister, Kourtney, also ate her Placenta earlier this year after giving birth to her third child, Reign Aston.

Still, some studies on eating placenta or placentophagy has not yet been proven to benefit humans. Majority of medical experts believe that there's just no proven reason to eat your own placenta after birth.
