A restructuring of the competition structure was disclosed by NASCAR today, focusing on innovation, transparency, and efficiency. The competition's change in tournament philosophy is said to be completed by 2015.
The sanctioning body of the competition said that they plan to simplify its rulebook. NASCAR said that it will possible publish the said rulebook online, complete with more graphical examples, animations, and illustrated data. The panel will also re-examine its appeals process for sanctions, and modernize its officiating by increasing technology during the race.
"We want to position NASCAR ultimately for the future," said NASCAR's senior vice president Steve O' Donnell. "The goal for us would be that as cars come off the manufacturing line in the near future, they certainly look like NASCAR from an aesthetic standpoint when you look at those on track, but just as importantly the technology that's in those cars mirrors what's on track, and we really become that proving ground from a technology standpoint."
This plan opens a new gate for technological firms focused on automobile processes. The automotive industry is led by firms based in China, which could possibly make their presence known in competitive racing.
