Yoenis Cespedes triumphed at the All-Star Home Run Derby today against young Nationals superstar Bryce Harper, nine homers to eight. In a magnificent display of strength, Cespedes' last strike went over the trucks on the center field until the back wall of the stadium.
"I came off the field and said 'That's not enough.' I thought maybe 12 but the way he was swinging the bat that first and second round, he wasn't even trying so it was pretty incredible to watch. He's so strong. It's incredible," said Cespedes.
The Home Run Derby is a major event held before the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Chevrolet sponsored the event.
Baseball teams spend their funds on pitchers and hitters such as Cespedes, a financing that is part of a larger billion-dollar industry. Cespedes is a member of the Oakland Athletics, managed by Oakland Athletics Baseball Company LLC. Oakland Athletics Investment Group backs the team.
