Development studio Psyonix has unveiled a new game mode titled "Snow Day" for the PC and PlayStation 4 versions of "Rocket League." But aside from the new mode, the developer is also giving away free Christmas-themed items to gamers.
Psyonix confirmed via Twitter that the new game mode is now available. According to the developer, "Sow Day" comes with new features that will provide a new gameplay experience to players.
For one, instead of a giant soccer ball, gamers will be competing against each other using an oversized hockey puck. In addition, the area where their customized cars will be driving on is entirely covered in ice.
However, PC Gamer noted that despite driving on ice, it seems the cars' handling features have not been affected. This means gamers can still easily control their vehicles even though the floor looks slippery.
The major difference that gamers will probably see in terms of gameplay experience is playing with a puck instead of a ball. Due to its flat and smooth sides, the puck has the tendency on stick to the walls as it slides forward instead of bouncing back. This of course, can slightly affect the performance of gamers who are used to using the walls of the arena to launch the ball at an angled trajectory.
But aside from these changes, the new mode also comes with holiday-themed items such as the Christmas Tree Topper, Candy Cane Antenna, Xmas Rocket Trail, Holiday Gift Antenna, Blitzen Topper, Santa Topper and the Sad Sapling Topper. Gamers will receive these items after every "Snow Day" match.
According to MCV UK, Psyonix will be dropping off the free items until Jan. 4, 2016. However, it's not yet clear if the new game mode will still be playable after that date. Also, Psyonix did not mention if "Snow Day" will be available for Xbox One gamers once the game officially debuts for Microsoft's next-gen console sometime in February next year.
