Blizzard Entertainment's upcoming patch for the highly successful "Diablo 3" will add a totally new zone that gamers can explore in the action role-playing game. As seen in the recently released trailer for Patch 2.4.0, the content update will put players in a creepy and cursed region known as Greyhollow Island.
The two-minute clip that Blizzard Entertainment recently unveiled for the content update is mainly focused on the environment of the mysterious location. As noted in the trailer, Greyhollow Island is situated a few miles away from Westmarch. The video also showed actual gameplay footages of the main character taking on hordes of enemies and various kinds of monsters.
But aside from the preview trailer, Blizzard Entertainment also released a new post on the Battle.net site detailing the backstory of Greyhollow Island and the contents of the patch. According to the developer, Greyhollow Island was used to be the home of an illustrious and powerful empire and was inhabited by people who devoted their lives to an unknown yet evil being.
One day, the empire mysteriously collapsed and its citizens disappeared. Numerous travelers have already tried venturing into the island to uncover the truth behind it but none of them returned to share their stories.
As for the entities that inhabit the island, Blizzard Entertainment noted that only a handful of humanoid creatures can be seen in the area. Instead, the developers focused on filling the map with monstrous and supernatural beings such as the Primeval Hunter, Glowing Death, Hive Mother and the Silverback. This is the developers' way of heightening the isolating vibe of the island to provide a "man-versus-nature" type of experience.
Joe Shely, the senior designer of the game, noted that the development of Greyhollow Island was inspired by The Graveyard of the Pacific. This is a real area in the Pacific Northwest that's notorious for causing shipwrecks.
The game's developers did not mention when Patch 2.4.0 will arrive but PC Gamer speculated that it might come out later this month. It will most likely be available for the PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of "Diablo 3".
