It has already been confirmed that "The Conjuring 2" will feature the real-life case of the "Enfield poltergeist", but new developments suggest it may also share screen time with the infamous "Amityville Horror" case.
According to Horror Movies, one persistent theory is that the Amityville Horror case will serve as a "mini-case" or sub-plot before moving on to the main story, the Enfield poltergeist. They might follow the same formula they did with the first movie, in which the backstory of haunted porcelain doll Annabelle was introduced at the start of the film before moving on to the main story of the Perron haunting.
The Amityville Horror case inspired a book and a series of horror films. It refers to the murder of the six DeFeo family members in their home in Amityville, Long Island, New York on November 13, 1974. Eldest son Ronald DeFeo, Jr. admitted to the crime and pleaded to insanity. He claimed he heard the voices of his family plotting against him. He was tried and convicted on six accounts of second-degree murder.
Speculation on the inclusion of the Amityville Horror story in The Conjuring sequel is backed up by a tiny detail which came from actress Alexa Najera, who's currently credited as "Allison" in the full cast and crew list at IMDb. Angelo Mancini, a loyal reader of Bloody Disgusting, contacted actress Alexa Najera via Twitter and asked two questions. First, if she can confirm that the DeFeo family story will be the opening scene for the movie, and second, if she's playing Dawn DeFeo. Najera promptly replied that she plays "Allison, not Dawn". Her reply doesn't deny the inclusion of the Amityville story, and supports the theory by confirming her role of Allison. Allison was the name of one of the murdered DeFeo children. Other details that back the Amityville story theory are the inclusion of the character names Dawn, Louise, John Matthew, and Roland Sr. in the IMDb cast list. They are all members of the murdered DeFeo family.
In The Conjuring 2, American paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to the borough of Enfield, London to investigate a case of poltergeist activity occurring in a council house in Brimsdown village. Single mother Penny Hodgson claims two of her four children are experiencing paranormal phenomenon. How the Amityville Horror case plays into the plot of The Conjuring 2 still remains to be seen.
James Wan returns to direct and produce the sequel. The screenplay is written by Wan with the collaboration of Chad and Carey Hayes, and revisions by David Leslie Johnson. Peter Safran and Rob Cowan are also producers.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as Ed and Lorraine Warren. Frances O'Connor stars as Penny Hodgson. Benjamin Haigh, Lauren Esposito, Madison Wolfe, and Patrick McAuley star as the Hodgson children. Supporting casts include Maria Doyle Kennedy, Franka Potente, Simon Delaney, and Simon McBurney.
