First ‘Ice Age: Collision Course’ Trailer Features Scrat, His Acorn and Accidental Role in Altering the Universe

By

The hit animation franchise, "Ice Age", has recently released the first trailer of its fifth installment, "Ice Age: Collision Course". Film distributor Twentieth Century Fox posted the movie trailer on its YouTube channel. The trailer prominently features Scrat, the sabre-toothed squirrel always getting into trouble for his obsession with obtaining acorns and keeping them at all cost, this time, with deadly consequences for everyone on Earth.

According to Cinema Blend, almost all Ice Age movie trailers feature Scrat and the disastrous results of his acorn-chasing antics. This trailer continues that hilarious tradition. It starts with Scrat chasing after his acorn as usual, when it suddenly activates a dormant alien spaceship hidden underneath the ice. The acorn acts as a key and moves the ship far out into space with Scrat still inside it. The spaceship collides into the Earth's moon and other planets, accidentally arranging them in place within the solar system. It also knocked a massive meteor out of its orbit, resulting in an impending collision course with Earth.

Only towards the end of the trailer does the focus shift back to the trio of Manny, Diego, and Sid, who watch as falling stars hit the Earth, unaware of the coming disaster that might just wipe them all out. This leaves viewers guessing how Manny and his gang can get themselves out of trouble this time.

According to the plot in IMDb, the trio and the rest of their herd leave the comfort of their current home to save themselves from peril. The group embarks on a quest to exotic lands where they meet new characters and encounter a new enemy.

Scrat is voiced by voice actor, director, and producer, Chris Wedge. He has voiced Scrat for all Ice Age installments. The original cast of Ray Romano, Denis Leary, and John Leguizamo reprise their roles as inseparable trio Manny the woolly mammoth, Diego the sabre-toothed cat, and Sid the sloth. Queen Latifah returns as Ellie, Simon Pegg as Buck, Keke Palmer as Peaches, and Jennifer Lopez as Shira.

Ice Age: Collision Course is co-produced by 20th Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios, and distributed by Twentieth Century Fox. It will debut in theaters worldwide on July 22, 2016.
